I’m Elaine O’Driscoll-Adam, a Naturopathic Nutritional Therapist, Health Educator and Food Geographer based in West Cork. I am a graduate of the College of Naturopathic Medicine (CNM). My expertise lies in sustainable and plant-based nutrition but not only... As part of my diploma, I studied biomedicine which confirmed my belief in plant-based nutrition for optimal function of the human body.
As a food geographer, I am worried about the state of our planet. We have ignored the cries of Mother Earth to the detriment of our species. Intensive agriculture has taken over the world’s doof (food) production with intent to “feed” the world, BUT, it does NOT NOURISH us. One day I said to my husband that I wanted to invent a term to define ultra-processes junk. I find it very difficult to bring myself to describe such rubbish as food. And so, the word doof was born. Current society is "advancing" backwards and, because we do not have eyes in the back of our heads, we do not know where we are going!
Our supermarkets sell us shelves full of Ultra-Processed Doof and ready-made “meals”. Such junk is highly addictive. BIG DOOF has spent a lot of time and money to find what is known as the “bliss point” thus triggering cravings and ensuring addiction. Do not think you SAVE time with these ready-made meals or takeaways. They might feed a craving but they do not nourish your body and brain.
I am an expert on why people have become so addicted to junk, that is, ultra-processed doof that is chemically-laden with highly refined sugars, carbs, and vegetable oils as well as chemical preservatives, additives and emulsifiers.
Cravings have increased to such an extent that people have become “contaminated” and consequently, the rise in obesity, diabetes, heart disease, neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer's, Parkinson's) and many other chronic diseases was inevitable.
But, with my support and guidance, we will work together, step-by-step, to enable you to commence your journey to optimal physical health and mental wellbeing through nourishing food. This is a call to action. It is never too early or too late…
I believe that nutrition is the most vital of the Five Fundamental Foundations of Health. However, the four other foundations (breathing, sleeping, eliminating, exercising) should be integrated into your lifestyle for optimal wellbeing.
What is Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy?
Blends traditional naturopathic principles with research on physiology & biochemistry
Food as thy Medicine
(W)holistic Approach
Individual Nutrition Plan
Focuses on Root Cause
It is a (w)holistic approach to health and wellbeing, based on prevention, and focused on finding the root cause of imbalance. Using a nutrition plan, tailored to the individual’s unique constitution, I guide my clients on their journey to optimal physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing.
Naturopathic medicine incorporates principles such as the body’s self-healing abilities, environmental and lifestyle factors. I have been trained to take into account the person as a whole as all body systems are interconnected.
To recall Hippocrates, “let food by thy medicine and medicine be thy food”, nutritional therapy highlights the use of whole, organic foods as an effective way to maintain a healthy and functional body and brain. It is important not to disassociate the brain from the body’s physical structure.
How I can help you:
